Personal Practice

What if you thought of your daily routine as your personal practice? There is no one right way to do your personal practice (although some would disagree). For many years I never considered having a personal practice or daily routine. It just wasn’t in my “thought bubble.” Once it became “a thing” and I saw the benefits, I committed to having one. Then as times have changed, like kids moving away, growing older, and considering retirement, my personal practice has changed. I do things I choose to do because I want to, not things that others say I should include in my daily routine. I do things that will help me feel better in life now and in the future.

This is my current practice. I check in with myself as to how I’m feeling before I get out of bed. After
oral hygiene and a few digestive exercises, I drink a glass of water visualizing all the toxins being washed away out of my body and my body rehydrating. Then I am still and quiet enough to meditate. I like to walk the dog. And I have one cup of delicious Costa Rican coffee along with blueberries and a green smoothie. I make a week’s worth of smoothies ahead of time and take one out each day. I like to journal with my coffee and also read something inspirational for self-improvement. Then I schedule my calendar. What is the most important thing to do today and do this week? This is what works for me at this stage in my life. Later in the day, I may exercise, practice yoga, and get out in nature.

I think that consistency is the key. However you are trying to help yourself, being consistent will make your practice easier and provide more benefits. Your personal practice is for you, done in a manner that benefits you most. If you miss a practice, pick it up again the next day.
